This dish is also popular for Hawaiians as they love the umami flavors from the furikake seasonings. It’s a staple to have for their dinner.

This baked salmon is also a great idea if you want to meal prep for your lunch or dinner. I doubt it will have they fishy smell if you bring it to work and heat it up. But I’m sure your co-workers will eyeing your food!

    WHAT IS FURIKAKE?

Furikake is a seasoning blend that typically consists of dried fish, sesame seeds, chopped seaweed, sugar, and salt. It is commonly used in Japanese cuisine to flavor rice, vegetables, and fish dishes.

There are many different varieties of furikake available, each with its unique flavor profile. Some popular types include nori (seaweed), shiso (perilla leaves), and bonito (dried fish). You can shop for furikake seasonings at your local Asian grocery store or at my Amazon Storefront.

    HEALTH BENEFITS OF SALMON

Salmon is an excellent source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for heart health. Omega-3s have been shown to reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, and decrease the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Salmon is also a good source of vitamin D, which is important for bone health and immune function. It is also a rich source of B vitamins, potassium, and selenium.

Because of my eye disease, I tend to make a lot of salmon recipes just like my Spicy Orange Glazed Salmon. When I want noodles, I love making my Honey Glazed Salmon.

    THE BREAKDOWN

    • SALMON FILETS – Any salmon filet will work.
    • MAYONAISE – This will bind the furikake seasonings to the salmon. Most often use kewpie mayonaise with is Japanese mayonnaise. I used vegan mayonnaise cause that is what I always have.
    • COCONUT AMINOS – I use coconut aminos because of the sweetness. For a saltier flavor, use low sodium soy sauce.
    • FURIKAKE SEASONINGS – For the umami depth of flavor.
    • GARLIC POWDER – Just to give the salmon a hint of garlic but use salt as another option.
    • CRACKED BLACK PEPPER – I like to use fresh grinded black pepper for a kick of flavor.
    • COOKING SPRAY – I went with coconut oil cooking spray to bake the salmon.

    HOW TO MAKE FURIKAKE SALMON

    Preheat your oven to 400°F.

Line a baking tray with parchment paper or foil. Spray with cooking spray and place the salmon filets on it. Season your salmon with garlic powder and the cracked black pepper.

    furkikake salmon ingredients

In a small bowl, mix together the organic coconut aminos and vegan mayonaise.

Spoon the mixture over the top of each salmon filet, spreading it evenly.

    uncooked salmon with furikake seasonings

Sprinkle the furikake seasonings over the top of the salmon filets.

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until the salmon is cooked through and the topping is golden brown.

    Serve with rice and enjoy!

SERVE THIS BAKED FURIKAKE SALMON WITH…

I love having this salmon with red ginger and seaweed sheets mixed with basmati rice. Basmati rice has a lower GI track. I added sriracha for a spicy flavor. Then, I turn them into a mini sushi. It’s quite filling!

baked furikake salmon in a bowl of rice with red ginger.

You’ll want to serve this dish over a bowl of rice. It can be jasmine rice or cauliflower rice if you want it lower in carbs.

Have them with slices of avocados for added healthy benefits.

    STORAGE

Store the furikake salmon in a container in the fridge for atleast 2-3 days.

You can reheat in the microwave for a few minutes or bake in the oven until heated through.

This Baked Furikake Salmon is a delicious and healthy dish that is easy to prepare for your busy weeknights. With its combination of protein, omega-3s, and other essential nutrients, it is a great choice if you’re looking have a flavorful dinner with all the healthy benefits. So, are you ready to make this now?
