    SOURDOUGH CRAB MELT

If you’re craving a quick and tasty sandwich, Sourdough Crab Melt is it! With a touch of Filipino flair and a blend of cheeses, this sandwich has explosion of flavors. Plus, it’s incredibly easy to make!

WHY YOU’LL LOVE THIS SOURDOUGH CRAB MELT

Quick and Easy: This recipe comes together in just a few minutes, making it perfect for busy days when you’re craving something delicious without spending hours in the kitchen.

Irresistible Cheesy Goodness: Who can resist melted cheese? The 4 Cheese Blend in this recipe adds a gooey cheesy indulgence that perfectly complements the savory imitation crab.

Unique Filipino Twist: The addition of Serious Foodie Filipino Grilled Spice Rub brings a touch of Filipino-inspired flavor to your melt.

Perfect Snack or Meal: Whether you’re looking for a hearty snack to satisfy your afternoon cravings or a quick and fulfilling meal, this Crab Melt is incredibly versatile.

    THE BREAKDOWN

    SOURDOUGH CRAB MELT BREAKDOWN
    • 2 slices of Sourdough Bread – I used Trader Joe’s Cracked Whole Wheat Sourdough Bread to be a little fancy!
    • Unsalted Butter – I used a pat but spread half one one bread, then the other half on the other bread.
    • Imitation Crab – Sometimes it’s okay to be FAKE, JK!!!  You can use fresh, canned, or immitation crab meat.
    • Mayonnaise
    • Serious Foodie Filipino Grill Spice Rub
    • Dried Parsley
    • Shredded Cheeses – I used Four Cheese Blend.

    HOW TO MAKE CRAB MELT

HOW TO MAKE SOURDOUGH CRAB MELT 1-2

In a bowl, mix together the crab, mayonnaise, Filipino spice rub, and parsley.  Set aside.

Heat you pan over medium heat.  Add half a pat of butter and let it melt.

Lay your first piece of sourdough bread on the pan.  Then add a handful of shredded cheeses, then add the crab mixture. You may add another handful of shredded cheeses on top of the crab mixture. That’s what I did!

Place your second sourdough on top of the mixture.  (I added a smear of mayonnaise on top to give a toasted look when you flip it over.)  Toast the first side for about 2-3 minutes.

HOW TO MAKE SOURDOUGH CRAB MELT 3-4

Add the other half of the butter to the pan.  Flip your sandwich carefully then wait another 2-3 minutes or until the bread is golden in color.

Serve your sandwich with Plantain Chips or my Oven Roasted Red Potato Wedges!

You may have left over crab mixture depending on how thick you want your sandwich to be.  In that case, make this crab dip!

    SUBSTITUTIONS

Bread: If you don’t have cracked wheat sourdough bread, you can use regular sourdough bread, whole wheat bread, or any bread of your choice. If you’re looking for a gluten-free option, you can use gluten-free bread or even use lettuce leaves as wraps.

Butter: You can substitute unsalted butter with olive oil, coconut oil, or a non-dairy butter.

Imitation Crab: If you’re not a fan of imitation crab or prefer real crab meat, you can use cooked and shredded crab meat. You could also use shrimp or lobster. Basically, any seafood you like!

Spice Rub: If you don’t have the Filipino Grilled Spice Rub, use any other spice blend that you enjoy. A blend of paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and a touch of cayenne pepper can work well.

Cheese Blend: Feel free to customize the cheese blend based on your preferences. Cheddar, mozzarella, Swiss, or Gouda are great alternatives. You can also use dairy-free cheese if you’re lactose intolerant or vegan.

Mayonnaise: If you want a lighter option, you can use Greek yogurt or mayonnaise.

    MAKE IT YOUR OWN!

Feel free to mix and match ingredients and flavors to create your own unique twists on the Sourdough Crab Melt. These variations can provide new and exciting flavor experiences for your taste buds!

    Mediterranean Crab Melt:

Use Mediterranean-style spices like oregano, basil, and lemon zest in place of the Filipino Grilled Spice Rub. Substitute the 4 Cheese Blend with feta cheese and mozzarella. Add sliced Kalamata olives and roasted red peppers to the filling for a Mediterranean twist.

    Spicy Cajun Crab Melt:

Replace the Filipino Grilled Spice Rub with Cajun seasoning for a kick of heat. Swap the imitation crab with cooked shrimp seasoned with Cajun spices. Then usse a comboof pepper jack and cheddar cheese for some cheesy spiciness.

    Avocado and Bacon Crab Melt:

This sounds like a good idea! Add slices of ripe avocado and crispy cooked bacon to the imitation crab mixture.

    STORAGE

Refrigeration: If you have leftovers, let the Crab Melt cool down slightly before storing. Wrap it in aluminum foil or place it in an airtight container to prevent it from drying out. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

    REHEAT THE CRAB MELT

Oven or Toaster Oven: Preheat your oven or toaster oven to around 350°F (175°C). Place the wrapped or covered Sourdough Crab Melt on a baking sheet. Reheat for about 10-15 minutes or until the bread is warmed through and the cheese is melty.

Skillet or Pan: Place a non-stick skillet or pan over medium-low heat. Add a small amount of butter or oil to the skillet. Place the sandwich in the skillet and cover with a lid. This helps the cheese melt evenly. Cook for about 3-5 minutes on each side, or until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted.

Microwave: Not really a good idea since it will wilt and be a bit soggy. Place the Sourdough Crab Melt on a microwave-safe plate. Heat in 20-30 second intervals until warmed through. Be cautious not to overheat, as it can result in soggy bread. Yuck!
