As the sun sets on summer, there’s no better way to savor its last moments than with a Tequila Sunrise in hand. This iconic cocktail combines the tangy freshness of orange juice, the warmth of tequila, and a pop of grenadine sweetness.

Two Tequila Sunrise Cocktail glasses with oranges and cherries.

Whether you’re lounging by the pool or hosting a backyard BBQ, the Tequila Sunrise is the ultimate sip of sunshine. Create this stunning drink and bid farewell to summer in style.

You’ll also like my Tequila Punch if you don’t have the ingredients.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE A GLASS OF TEQUILA SUNRISE COCKTAIL

Stunning Visual Appeal: The Tequila Sunrise is a feast for the eyes. Its striking gradient of vibrant orange and deep red, reminds you of a summer sunrise. This drink makes it a showstopper.

Refreshing Flavor: The combination of fresh orange juice and quality tequila creates a refreshingly tangy and zesty flavor profile. It’s like a burst of sunshine in your mouth.

A Nostalgic Classic: The Tequila Sunrise has been a beloved cocktail for decades. This cocktail brings a sense of nostalgia. Sharing it with friends and family can create memorable moments and stories from back in the days!

Easy to Make: You don’t need to be a mixologist or bartendar to make this cocktail. Just throw in a few ingredients and act like you’re a mixologist. Then you can impress your guests with your bartending skills. Plus, they’ll ask for more as they get more drunk!

Pairs Well with Food: The citrusy notes of the Tequila Sunrise make it the perfect pairing to any appetizers. The cocktail totally pairs up with this street tacos, chicharon onion rings, or these chorizo jalapeno poppers.

So let’s get ready to have a Drunken Party, TOOTz!

    THE BREAKDOWN

    Tequila Sunrise Cocktail ingredients.
    • ORANGE JUICE – store bought or freshly squeezed.
    • TEQUILA – the good stuff! Grab your favorite tequila from the liquor store.
    • GRENADINE – adds the red color to make the sunrise.
    • ICE – lots of them to finish the tequila bottle! LOL
    • ORANGE SLICE AND A CHERRY – just to have the cocktail look fancy.

HOW TO MAKE TEQUILA SUNRISE COCKTAIL

Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. The chill will ensure your Tequila Sunrise is as refreshing as it looks.

Carefully pour 4 ounces of orange juice over the ice. The citrusy burst of flavor is the backbone of this cocktail.

Gently pour in 2 ounces of tequila.

    Tequila Sunrise Cocktail process 1.

Now comes the fun part! Slowly pour ¼ ounce of grenadine down the side of the glass. The grenadine will settle at the bottom, creating that signature sunrise gradient.

Let the grenadine settle for a moment, then give the drink a gentle stir. Watch the mixture blend together mimicking the colors of a summer sunrise.

    Tequila Sunrise Cocktail process 2.

Garnish your Tequila Sunrise with an orange slice and a cherry.

Then raise your glass and toast to the memories of summer with your guests. Cheers!

    SUBSTITUTIONS FOR TEQUILA SUNRISE COCKTAIL

Mocktail Version: Replace the tequila with orange juice or a non-alcoholic tequila. This is a great option for designated drivers or those who prefer non-alcoholic beverages. (Like me since I quit!)

Other Fruit Juices: Change up the flavor with other fruit juices like pineapple, cranberry, or even grapefruit juice.

Make it Low-Calorie: You can opt for lower-calorie versions of the ingredients, such as diet or reduced-sugar orange juice and sugar-free grenadine. They have alot to choose from at the grocery stores.

    VARIATIONS OF TEQUILA SUNRISE COCKTAIL

Tropical Tequila Sunrise: Replace the orange juice with a mix of pineapple and mango juices for a tropical twist. Garnish with a pineapple slice and maraschino cherry.

Tequila Sunrise Margarita: Use this recipe with a margarita by adding a splash of lime juice and triple sec to the mix. Rim the glass with salt or sugar for an extra touch. YUM!

Spicy Tequila Sunrise: Add a slice of jalapeño or a dash of hot sauce for a spicy kick. Use Cholula or Tabasco sauce. This will balance the heat with the sweet and tangy flavors from the grenadine and orange juice.
